Welcome To Gore Cartoons:
My names Joseph Tan and I am a disabled filmmaker from Middlesbrough, England. Ever since I was a child
I've had ambitions to work in film and animation but actually getting to where I am now has been a long and
hard process.
The reason for this was my health. I suffer a rare condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. It effects no two
people the same and unfortunitly for me I was born with the rarest form. The condition itself can be abit of
a jumble to describe so I'll keep it simple. The arteries connecting my heart and lungs are undeveloped and
in one case totally missng. This means that I am essentially living off one lung and a damaged heart.
I also suffer from multiple holes in my heart (repaired but leaking), scoliosis of the spine and asthma.
When I left college in 1998 I started looking for work. I spent four years attending interviews for all
sorts of jobs, all of which I was turned away from due to my health. As time went on I was advised to stop
looking for work because the local council thought I'd never be able to get a 'real' job. They told me to
go on the sick, to take up a hobby and to enjoy whatever life I had left. It was around then that I decided
to take up filmmaking and become the filmmaker I'd always dreamed of being.
As of 2007 I have organised and released over 70 productions including features, short films, music videos and
documentries. My health continues to get worse with each passing year and how long my body will be able to
cope with the condition I have is anyones guess, but I dont let it worry me. I'm currently enjoying my life,
the people who are part of it and the work that goes with it. I look ahead at all times and never back. And
its on that note I leave you to explore my site, my films and my passion. I hope you enjoy what you see, Joe.
